Whats it called?

You know when you eat nasi bryani there's this seed like thingy that hides everywhere inside your rice.
Its supposed to make your bryani smell better or something.
And if you accidentally bite it, it gives your mouth this awful sensation.
I don't know what you call it but I just bit one just now and I'm so disgusted.
